SUMBA WELCOMES HOME TEAM AUSTRALIA FROM WORLD GAMES!

After waking in the dark, early hours of Saturday morning, SUMBA journeyed to Sydney International Airport to welcome home 101 athletes and 35 support staff returning from the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. By all measures it was a successful Games for Team Australia, returning with 141 medals and many more personal best performances and memories. SUMBA is excited to announce that we will be playing at the opening game of the 2018/2019 WNBL season! REPORT: TRAFFIC STOPPED BY SUMBA BRIDGE PERFORMANCE

SUMBA was back to semester with a bang last Thursday. We welcomed both new and old members back to semester with some fresh music. Over the rehearsal we learnt the opening of Beyoncé’s Coachella performance (which features a marching band). After spending some time memorising this we headed into the great outdoors. SUMBA MARCHES THE SYDNEY UNI FLAMES ONTO VICTORY!

In early November, SUMBA teamed up with the Sydney Uni Flames WNBL team to support them at their game against the University of Canberra Capitals. This involved a half-time performance and time-out music blasts from the stands. We even borrowed a sousaphone to make the event really special! Sydney Uni Flames went on to win the match 81-62. SUMBA TEAMS UP WITH SUWO, NSWS, NWWE AND THE NSW RAILWAY BAND AT CARRIAGEWORKS!

In an exciting first for SUMBA, we teamed up with the Sydney University Wind Orchestra, North Shore Wind Symphony, North West Wind Ensemble and the NSW Railway Band to form a super-band on Saturday 5th August 2017! The performance at Carriageworks in Redfern celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the 1917 Great Strike, where thousands of railway workers walked off the job to protest a recent decision of the NSW Department of Railways and Tramways. SUMBA PLAYS (NEAR) VIVID!

Initially slated to be in the heart of VIVID, we were asked to relocate by the City of Sydney in light of the Ariana Grande terrorist attack. However, SUMBA (known for attracting large crowds!) headed over to Milsons Point instead! We played through Luna Park and along the harbour foreshore.
